How to Hang a Door

To hang a door might seem like an easy task. It isn't too difficult but you still need to put in a little work and effort otherwise you might end up with a door that won't shut or that have big gaps under it.
The first thing you need to do is to measure your dooropening, then you buy a door that fit into that opening. It will have to be 2'' smaller than the rough opening or ¼'' than the finished one.
You might need to trim your door a little so it's better to buy a door that is a little too big rather than a little too litte.
To trim it you just saw off as much as you need to fit it and then you use a sand paper to smooth it out and make it look nice.
When you think your door is about the right size you hold it up and see if it fits. If not you make some more adjustments.
The next thing to do is to decide what way you want the door to open. Then it's time to place the hinges.
You need two to three hinges on a door. They should be placed 15 cm from the top and bottom and if you like you could place one in the middle.
To know where to place your hinge you open one up and mark with a pen around the hinge. Do the same with the other hinge/hinges.
To be able to close the door nicely you need to make little recesses for the hinges. This is made with a chisel. This can be a little tricky so be careful.
You just cut away a little of the wood within your pencil markings and then try out with the hinge if it fits.
The next thing to do is to fasten the hinges. You mark with a pencil where the drillholes are and then drill the holes before you screw the hinges into place.
Now draw out the hinge placing on the doorframe. Use a pencil to draw around the hinge. Chisel it out the same way you did with the door. Then mark where the drillholes should be, drill the holes and then fasten the hinge on the doorframe.
If you want to you can paint or varnish the door and you'll need to choose and put in a doorhandle.
